Property owners that turn 65 anytime during the calendar year (at least one owner must be turning 65), may apply for the Enhanced Star Exemption (School Tax Relief) on your primary residence.   You may download both required forms here:  RP-425-E and RP-425-IVP or pick them up at the Assessor’s office. The current income limit (subject to change) is $93,200.  This is the combined income of all owners.

Application deadline is March 1st.

Remember, if you turn 65 anytime during the calendar year, you may apply.

For example, if you turn 65 on September 1, 2024, you may apply for the Enhanced Star Exemption by March 1, 2024.

Property owners 65 years of age or older:  If your TOTAL GROSS HOUSEHOLD INCOME is $24,900 OR LESS you MAY be eligible for tax exemptions on your primary residence.  Application deadline is March 1st with supporting documentation.  If your total gross household income is below $24,900, contact the Assessor's Office for an application, as shown below.

SENIOR CITIZEN TAX EXEMPTION: Genesee County is expected to increase the income level for this exemption to $32,200 (total gross income of all owners.) However, this change will NOT be finalized until the February 28th, 2024 county legislature public hearing and the exemption forms are due on March 1st, 2024. Not much time to complete, but feel free to fill out the exemption now and drop it off at the Town Hall or in the drop box in the entry way.  Applications can be found on the counter at the Town Clerk's office or can be downloaded here. Apologies for the extremely late notice, but we were just informed ourselves.  The press release from the County can be found here.
